The blood donation will take place from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in a mobile blood donation bus on the village square in Longos. The administrative council requests the members of our association and the villagers to participate in this voluntary action, because a drop of blood may save lives.Blood donation – Useful informationWhat is blood?Blood is a tissue in a liquid state that serves as a means of communication between the various organs of the body. Its primary and irreplaceable role is the transport of oxygen, which is carried out by the red blood cells. Another main task is the defense against pathogens in the body, a function performed by white blood cells. At the same time, the blood transports nutrients, hormones and vitamins, carries waste products from one organ to another, and serves as a channel for the excretion of various useless or even harmful elements from the kidneys. Finally, platelets and clotting factors ensure hemostasis, i.e., that bleeding stops in the event of a vascular injury.
Blood donationAnyone can become a blood donor, provided they are healthy and between 18 and 65 years old. The donor's health will be carefully checked by a doctor. The donor's medical history is taken, their blood pressure is measured, and they are tested for anemia. Before the blood transfusion, the blood is also thoroughly tested for diseases that are either unknown or that the donor has unknowingly transmitted (hepatitis, syphilis, AIDS). If anything is detected, the blood will not be administered and the donor will be notified to undergo the necessary tests. The blood draw only takes five minutes and is always performed using disposable devices. The blood donor then lies down for another ten minutes and drinks a soft drink. The body only needs ten minutes to replenish the donated blood volume. It is recommended to refrain from smoking and strenuous physical activity for one hour after donating blood. Blood donors can usually donate blood every three to four months. Regular donors typically donate three times a year. Donated blood can be stored in a special refrigerator for up to 42 days. Many valuable products are obtained from blood, such as plasma, red blood cells, platelets, clotting factors, gamma globulin, albumin and others, which have a much longer shelf life.
